Go Highlanders!

We survived our first professional rugby match with flying colors. The Dunedin-based Highlanders beat the South African Cheetahs. It was pretty fun, actually. I am not at all a fan of American football, but I found that rugby was reasonably fun to watch. Play seemed to be less interrupted, so there was more action going on. Plus, they have unusual looking plays like "scrums" (kind of like a huddle) and they lift players up in the air to catch the ball. Some of the plays were very graceful.

The highlight of the game for me was translating the Highlander theme song into German for the daughter of one of the other locum tenens here. "Go Highlanders...welcome to the house of pain." Those of you curious about John's highlight of the game will have to email him for further details, as they were deemed inappropriate for mass reader consumption.

While we had premium seats, we caught up with some friends afterwards who were in the general admission section. It sounded like they had quite a cultural experience over there. In the bleachers where we were, fans were downright quiet and polite. The other section sounded like it was a beer-guzzling, rowdy fest.
